A Moment in Time

Fashion is expressive….I get so much inspiration for my style through art, movies, music and television. Being your own personal stylist is kind of a way to take it back to childhood and play dress up.

The look featured in this post is an oversize turtle neck dress in cobalt blue. I added a faux fur black coat and loose ankle booties. A pair of semi cat eye shades complete the look and it totally gives me 1960s actress in the morning, leaving her date’s spot after a long night. Circa…Elizabeth Taylor in Butterfield 8. If you haven’t heard of it, please google! I won’t spoil the plot for you! It’s one of my all time favorite films and in the beginning she spends most of the morning wrapped in a coat after a long night. The visual stayed with me since I watched the movie with my mom as a preteen.

Fashion is always repeated over the years and I think this can be attributed to people’s memories attached to certain time periods, or admiration for someone who lived in a particular era. How awesome is it that we live in a time where there is a plethora of information available for us to reference the past? Sooo many of my favorite bloggers, such as Karen Blanchard, incorporate vintage items and thrift finds into their looks. While others like me, like to see the old interpretation in new items and recreate a moment in time that’s familiar.

Wherever you take inspiration from in your wardrobe, have some fun with it! Think about a memory, a movie or a song that spurred some happiness in your heart and incorporate it into your look for the day. Share your ideas in the comments!
