Sometimes, when I take it all off….makeup, layers of clothes, hair, heels….I actually feel so much younger. That feeling always makes me laugh because all of those enhancements are supposed to give that effect of youth and beauty instead of the reverse. Don’t get me wrong, I love all those things. I wouldn’t trade them for anything and I know when I’m dolled up…ya girl looks good! But every once in a while, I like to strip it down and take it back to my 20s self. I’m 36 now, so in my early 20s, the whole “slay” and “beat” craze wasn’t a thing. I rarely wore powder and the only thing I had from MAC or any other cosmetic company was mascara and gloss. While I went out a lot, and pushed the envelope with my clothes, they were never distasteful and compared to some of the trends today, they were mild at best in the genre of being sexy. I remember a particular time, my junior year of college, I was 20 and it was homecoming weekend. My roommate and I were ready to hit the parties that Saturday night and came out into the lobby ready for all types of shenanigans. We stepped out and a few girls were visiting with their parents….we froze and were mortified at the way we were dressed. It was awful! Looking back on it, compared to this generations choices of clothes…..we were lame!
That experience always gives me a laugh looking back. That was the inspo for this outfit posted here. I used to love mini skirts, but when I approached my 30s, I let them go. I really don’t know why but I think I leaned for the sophistication of a sleek midi skirt or dress. I ran across this one in this fun print and couldn’t resist. While, the skirt is mini, it is still a tasteful length for weekends when paired casually like here with a cute tee and Converse sneakers. It will def translate seamlessly into Fall and Winter with tights and an oversize knit sweater.
While, that 20 something girl I was is gone, I miss her sometimes, so it’s fun to have a visit with her. Not for long, but for a moment at least, within reason of course! LOL! One of the good things about getting older is the confidence that comes with age. My country girl legs, riddled with marks from playing outside on hot concrete and summer nights of mosquito bites don’t bother me as much. I don’t fall apart when I give in to the indulgence of a cupcake after dinner. I look in the mirror with the wisdom to know the best days are ahead.
What youthful look from your past would you consider bringing back? Let me know in the comments

Thank you! 🤗
I can’t get enough of this skirt! I love the way you paired it. I’m so happy I was able to enjoy my youth without all of the pressures the older teens and young adults have today. I remember buying fake Coach purses with the matching belt and hat! I was happy to buy that because there was no way I could afford the real deal working down to the mall lol My youthful look would be anything colorful. In my older age….I’ve rocked more neutral colors. I used to shop the racks at Rave or Holidays and color would always catch my eye

Thanks girl! The 90s, early 2000s was just a fun time. I’m trying to wear more color too! All I wear is black, browns, whites it seems. You can still be age appropriate and sophisticated in color!
