How to Win at Winter Coats!

This is the last week of February and Spring is a little over 3 weeks away. As you guys may know I live in Little Rock, AR and here in the South, we can have literally one day, 3 seasons! No matter where you live, however I’m sure many people have noticed a shift in climate change and our planet is definitely trying to tell us something! At any rate, the last couple years, I found myself preparing for Winter, buying fab coats at full price in an attempt to get ready for the cold. The result, extreme disappointment when my actual need for said coats is minimal! Let’s talk about some tips to better flex those coat dollars!

The most obvious is to think about where you live and what your previous Winter seasons have yielded. Like I said previously, I live in the South, I already know that the cold months can be unpredictable, but light. While, someone in New York, D.C or Chicago may have different needs. I remember being in college and my freshmen roommate and many of my friends were from the Chi. To them, being down south even in November and December didn’t warrant anything but a hoodie. However, when it was time for them to head home for Winter break, they would drag out these huge coats and I’d think, where does this come in? The answer…getting off a flight to be greeted by the Chicago wind was no game! Know your needs in winter apparel based on where you live and purchase coats with fabric choices that will protect you!

Now, you guys know I’m a neutral girl, so I maybe a little biased with this next one, but here goes. Invest in staple color coats that will match many outfits year to year! You can never go wrong with a black, tan, brown, cream or white. These will match your more fun clothes underneath and never go out of style! If you do decide to spice it up with a color, think about red or navy. I took the plunge and bought a beautiful pistachio green coat this year that I absolutely love but haven’t had as many opportunities to wear it.

On the contrary, patterns in coats can be show stopping and a great way to amp up basic clothing pieces! Classic, recognizable patterns like Burberry are a great staple. Houndstooth and animal print is everywhere on high and low end fashion trends.

If you don’t remember any other point I’ve listed…..take note of this! BUY OUT OF SEASON! I am literally scouring sites as we speak, because all the winter gear, particular coats are going on sale! I do this every year! I’ve gotten great coats for more than half off from my some of my favorite retailers.

Hey girl! I’m in Houston but originally from Memphis, TN. Houston basically has one season…HOT! Lol But when we do get colder days I don’t need much…maybe a light peacoat or heavy jacket. I have a plum peacoat that I got from Victoria’s Secret about 5 years ago. I still have it and I probably wear it with outfits I shouldn’t lmao!!!! It was pricey and I’m getting my money’s worth! I plan on searching the internet for dusters and jackets based on my weather needs here like you suggested. Thanks for the tips!!!!

Right!!! Buy low and save for the next year. watch materials. I don’t buy expensive wools etc bc it just doesn’t get that serious in the south.
