It’s the Thought That Counts!

I grew up in a household where we love gifting each other on the holidays. We rarely use bags for presents….we wrap! And we genuinely enjoy buying things we think each person will love. In my adult life, me and my brother constantly tease my mom about her gift choices for us! She tries really hard to get things we will love, but ultimately gets what she wants us to have. She always makes sure we have the receipt and jokes that she knows we exchange or take her gifts back! It’s hilarious!

However, there is something to be said about any gift that someone is kind enough to make or purchase for you. In a world where people are often times out for themselves, it’s always nice to know that there are people in your life who put their funds, resources and time into making you smile. Recently, we had a few days of rain and I found myself running errands with my son wearing a particular gift my mom got me two Christmas holidays ago.

A short rain trench in a navy blue. I must admit that when I opened it, I was taken aback. I never thought to buy myself any kind of trench at that time in my life and I hadn’t worn a rain coat since elementary. However, I was intrigued. I tried it on and instantly liked it. There was an ease to the wear that I could dress up or down. I knew I wouldn’t be returning this gift! Isn’t funny how you can get a gift from someone and it be exactly what you needed? For this look, I paired the trench with a white tee, my Fashion Nova mom jeans, blue envelope Banana Republic clutch and Cole Haan sneakers, a gift from my brother, just because. (He’s the greatest and single ladies! Follow his IG here! LOL!)

Next time you receive a gift, take the time to reflect on the person who gave it to you. What was the reason, how will you incorporate it into your life? After all, it’s the thought that counts….but not in the way you traditionally interpret the saying…..it begins with you! Have you ever received a gift that you weren’t sure about but it turned out to be a gem? Let me know in the comments.

Our moms sound so much alike! She’s notorious for gift wrapping and giving gifts that she likes for us to have instead of what we actually would use or want. SMH LAWD! This past Christmas, she told me in advance that she was gifting my husband and I with books. Instantly my face went 😐 lol Actually, it turned out to be a gem! It’s a daily devotional book that I read…daily. It’s helped me to get through some tough days and I’m forever grateful for her to think of that as a gift. Now…if you want to talk fashion…she got me a gift card from Ann Taylor 🙄 Enough. Said.

I love this. It was the same way in my household. My mom was so thoughtful and tried so hard. She finally started letting me pick out my own gifts. I love your blog sis❤
